intage from the 1950s

10 UK women's

A beautiful suit from the 1950s ,excellently tailored by Hardy Amies, who held the Royal Warrant as the official dressmaker to Queen Elizabeth in 1955 and beyond. Everything about this suit screams quality-from the fabric (I think it is silk) to the elegant styling ,exquisite tailoring and perfect finishing. The jacket is made in the typical 50s style with a tapered waist widening out to a slight peplum shape below. The bust measurement is 34” inches and the waist is 28” inches,Hips 36” inches. The collar is inky blue silk velvet and the colour is echoed in the buttons down the front. There are two tiny pockets which also have button closures and on the back is a decorative belt with two matching buttons..The label in both the jacket and the skirt reads “Hardy Amies,65 Grosvenor St. London,Made in England”,there is also a tiny label inside the jacket that reads “14” but that is vintage sizing and is more of a 10-12 in modern sizing. The jacket and skirt are both fully lined with the Hardy Amies name imprinted on the fabric. The skirt’s waist measurement is 28 “ inches and has a side zip and hook and eye fastenings, at the back are three kick pleats ,placed on the right hand side only-very stylish. The condition is excellent, with no damage ,only a couple of small unobtrusive marks that will probably vanish when the garment is dry-cleaned, and the abstract patterned fabric is bright and fresh. This is such an elegant and chic suit!
